Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with Director of the UNOPS Multi-Country Office

On 26 May 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mähri Bäşimowa and Director of the Austria Multi-Country Office of the United Nations Office for Project Services Simonetta Siligato.

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNOPS, noting the effectiveness of bilateral collaboration in a number of areas.

The sides also exchanged views on climate-related issues and the practical implementation of environmental programmes aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of the visit was to further develop the joint programme on methane emissions reduction for 2026–2030.

The parties reviewed the mechanisms of cooperation related to the implementation of Turkmenistan’s commitments under the Global Methane Pledge and confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening expert-level cooperation and coordinating joint efforts through specialized agencies.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their intention to continue active dialogue and expand cooperation within international and regional initiatives in the field of climate agenda and sustainable development.
