Meeting between the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan and the Director-General of UNESCO

On 25 March 2026, a meeting was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris between the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Mr. Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Khaled El-Enany, on the margins of the presentation of the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report 2026).

During the meeting, the Turkmen side presented the key priorities of the national education policy, including the consistent development of cooperation with UNESCO, participation in the UNITWIN Programme, expansion of international academic engagement, and strengthening of the institutional framework of the education system.

Particular attention was given to the digital transformation of education, the integration of artificial intelligence technologies, teacher professional development, as well as the promotion of lifelong learning and Turkmenistan’s growing participation in UNESCO’s global initiatives.

The Director-General of UNESCO highly appreciated the efforts undertaken by Turkmenistan in the field of education, highlighting the systematic and forward-looking nature of the reforms aimed at ensuring inclusive and quality education. He also commended the country’s active engagement in the international educational dialogue and its contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation and implementing joint initiatives in the fields of education, science and innovation.
